COUNCILWOMAN ARNOLD IS LEADING AND GETTING RESULTS
LEADERSHIP DURING THE PANDEMIC: Worked diligently to make sure district residents have adequate PPE, testing, and economic relief. Good Street Baptist Church was used as a testing site to ensure access for constituents in the highest at-risk zip code communities.
SUPPORT FOR LOCAL BUSINESSES: Strongly supports small business and economic development. Beckley Settlement is providing affordable commercial space to local entrepreneurs. The E J Smith Communities project is re-purposing the former Urban League building to create office and retail space which will create 200 new local jobs.
IMPROVED STREETS & CODE COMPLIANCE: In 2020, $6.3M from the city has gone into more than 100 street, alley and sidewalk projects. Councilwoman Arnold is strong on code compliance and maintaining our neighborhoods. Projects such as the Community Clean Trash-Off have removed tens of thousands of pounds of trash from neighborhoods.
STRONG PUBLIC SAFETY: Councilwoman Arnold understands the importance of public safety and the need for every resident to feel safe. The “Dallas 365 Safe” initiative was piloted to promote a “take back the community” approach to protecting our neighborhoods. Community leaders, DPD and their “One Community” public safety partners, as well as the North Texas Crime Commission are working to reduce criminal activity in the city.
ACCESS TO HOUSING: New developments in the district are making a difference. Projects by Texas Heavenly Homes and Golden S.E.E.D.S. will add 51 affordable single-family homes in the Bottom area. Councilwoman Arnold ushered a majority council vote to stop demolitions in the Historic 10th Street area. She supported funding of $250,000 to address “tangled titles” to enable clear titles for potential owners applying for Housing Improvement Grants through the city.
